The Saudi Standards, Metrology and Quality Organization was established by Royal Decree No. (M/10) dated 3/3/1392 AH, as a body with legal personality and an independent budget, whose general policy is drawn up by a board of directors chaired by the Minister of Commerce and Investment, and includes representatives of the main parties concerned with standardization in the Kingdom. Its aim was to achieve regional leadership and scientific reference in the areas of standardization, conformity assessment, and upgrading the specifications and quality of products and services to enhance consumer protection and the competitiveness of the Saudi national economy.
